The key to the Gulf is one of the titles held by the island of Cuba for its privileged geographical position at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico, a location that has also made it a product of high nautical value.

With a narrow and elongated figure, Cuba submerges its coasts in the warm waters of the Caribbean to the south and those of the Atlantic Ocean to the north, so that its insular platform is rich in diversity of marine species. The Cuban archipelago consists of two major islands, several smaller islands and some 4 100 cays and islets that constitute the land of an underwater relief whose platform extends for 70,000 km², hiding among its intricacies, spectacles that delight those who They have the privilege of watching their wonders. The coasts of Cuba harbor more than 200 bays and 300 natural beaches, as the marine flows that caress its banks constantly transform the coastal landscape, alternating between challenging cliffs and serene spas that ensure a season of sun and sea like few others in the Caribbean. In the Cuban insular platform, there are approximately 3 400 km of coral fronts that, in the form of an underwater belt, emerge in many places to create the so-called "chorale" or "cabezos", true privileges for lovers of scuba diving. In these landscapes, surprisingly attractive, live more than 38 000 species of crustaceans, 1 500 mollusks, more than 700 fish, 300 sponges and a greater number of starfish, holothurians and sea urchins. There are also 5 species of marine turtles and mammals, such as the dolphin or the enigmatic manatee sirénido, in danger of extinction.

Conditions for diving:

  • Water temperature: Between 24 º C and 28.5 º C.
  • You can dive perfectly with lycra or 3mm neoprene suits.
  • Average horizontal average visibility: 30 m.

In Cuba there is a national system of hyperbaric chambers and specialized medical assistance that guarantees the necessary treatments 24 hours a day, throughout the year. General regulations for the practice of recreational diving in Cuba:

  • All dives are guided by diving instructors.
  •  It is mandatory to show the corresponding international degree of the level that the client possesses.
  •  The extraction of any species of marine flora and fauna is prohibited.

The development of diving in Cuba is premised on the conservation of underwater ecosystems. For its practice, it has modern equipment and uses the most beautiful natural areas of the insular platform, many of them declared protected areas. We offer you these useful tips so that it contributes to the preservation of the environment:

  • Learn in advance about the area to visit.
  • Never anchor over the reef.
  • Avoid excessive ballasting.
  • Try to keep the body horizontally under water.
  • Attach to your buoyancy compensator all the elements of your equipment to prevent them from catching on the bottom and break the coral.
  • Do not extract, damage or move corals, any living rock or resources of historical value.
  • Take only photographs as souvenirs of the dive and use simple and manageable equipment.
